BERC attributed the steep price hike to rising international Saudi CP market prices alongside upward revisions in margins for importers, bottlers, dealers, and retailers following public hearing demands. Under the revised framework, importer storage and bottling charges (including plant-to-distributor transport) increased to ৳281.76 (from ৳200), dealer commissions rose to ৳85 per 12kg cylinder (from ৳50), and retailer margins were set at ৳70 (from ৳45). Concurrently, the price of vehicular autogas was raised to ৳91.95 per liter from ৳84.62.

Despite regulatory price settings, retail markets have faced severe price distortions. An intelligence report revealed that five major importers halted sales from September 22 to hoard stock during global price spikes (up $64 per tonne), driving actual retail prices in Dhaka to ৳2,200–৳2,500 despite stable import volumes of 156,000 tonnes in September. Consumer advocates raised severe concerns at recent BERC public hearings over regulatory inactivity and lack of penal measures against hoarding importers.
