In a chilling and sensational incident in Pabna, a 10-year-old child named Kamrunnahar Koli was raped and strangled to death, after which her body was stuffed in a sack and dumped in a pond. Demonstrating extreme callousness, the accused perpetrators actively joined local protests, human chain programs, and search operations to divert suspicion.

Pabna Superintendent of Police Abu Ashraf revealed these grim details during a press briefing held at the SP's office on Thursday evening (September 17).

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder: Mostafa Kamal (55), son of the late Abdul Matin Pramanik from Kulunia village, and Yasin Ali (21), son of the late Mohabbat Ali from Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj, who was renting a house in Ward No. 8 of Kulunia.

According to the SP, the mystery of the murder was unraveled based on confessional information, digital evidence from mobile phones, and items recovered from the scene.

Police investigations revealed that on the evening of September 9, Koli—daughter of Kamal Pramanik from Kulunia village—went missing. Mostafa Kamal and Yasin Ali lured the child into the bedroom behind Mostafa's grocery shop, where both suspects violated her. Fearing exposure, they strangled her to death.

To conceal the crime, they initially packed the body inside a yellow plastic sack and hid it under a bed in Mostafa's room. A night later, the body was transferred into a white sack, tied with two bricks, and submerged under water and bushes in an abandoned pond near the house.

Despite committing the heinous act, the accused maintained an air of normalcy. They participated in public human chains demanding Koli's safe return and joined villagers in door-to-door searches.

On late September 15, the killers attempted to move the decomposed body to another location. While dragging the sack toward a septic tank, a strong odor emanated, and startled by barking dogs, they abandoned the sack and fled. Locals discovered the body the following morning and informed the police.

Forensic analysis and autopsy reports confirmed rape and strangulation. Furthermore, deleted photos of Koli taken by Mostafa on his mobile phone when she visited his shop with her younger brother on September 9 were successfully recovered using digital forensics.

The two arrested suspects have been placed on a five-day police remand. The SP noted that interrogation aims to uncover if others were involved in the conspiracy and execution of the crime. Recognizing the gravity of the case, the investigation was transferred to the District Detective Branch (DB) on Thursday, with directives to submit a chargesheet swiftly.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sakhawat Hossain, DB OC Rashedul Islam, and Sadar Police Station OC Tarikul Islam, among other senior officials, were present at the briefing.
