Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury officially inaugurated the "Walton Solar Eco-System" at Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC's corporate office in Bashundhara on Saturday (October 10, 2026). The initiative aims to expand solar-powered technology usage across Bangladesh to reduce heavy reliance on imported fuel and cut energy costs.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Acting Chairman Ahsan Habib attended the ceremony as a special guest. Speaking at the event, Minister Amir Khosru stated that the power sector is undergoing a qualitative shift from traditional fossil fuels and imported gas toward renewable energy.
He highlighted that rooftop solar users can sell surplus electricity back to the grid through net metering under government incentive packages, targeting massive power generation within the next one to two years to save foreign currency. Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Chairman S. M. Shamsul Alam noted that Walton's comprehensive ecosystem can power major household appliances—including hybrid ACs, four-door inverter refrigerators, washing machines, BLDC ceiling fans, street lights, LED bulbs, and electric stoves—using solar inverters, solar panels, storage batteries, and cables. The launch event was also addressed by Walton Vice-Chairman S. M. Ashraful Alam and Managing Director S. M. Mahbubul Alam.
