Finance Minister Inaugurates ‘Walton Solar Eco-System’ to Boost Renewable Energy and Cut Fuel Imports

Tech giant Walton has set a new milestone and precedent for sustainable development by increasing the use of renewable energy in the industrial sector, conserving electricity, reducing carbon emissions, and establishing eco-friendly production systems. Leveraging solar energy, the company has unveiled an integrated "Solar Eco-system" technology that facilitates the generation, storage, and national grid transmission of 100% eco-friendly solar power, while also powering everyday household electrical and electronic appliances.

Under this solar ecosystem, Walton is generating 32 megawatts of solar power through rooftop and floating solar projects at its own manufacturing facilities—an output equivalent to the total electricity demand of a major district town. While a significant portion of this generated power is utilized in its own manufacturing operations to save energy, Walton also supplies approximately 1,150 megawatt-hours of solar electricity annually to the national grid via the net metering system.

Walton’s solar ecosystem extends beyond mere generation of eco-friendly power; the company also manufactures solar-powered products—including energy-efficient solar panels, inverters, and batteries—designed to handle daily household tasks such as air conditioning, food preservation, entertainment, cooking, lighting, and laundry. On Saturday (October 10, 2026), Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the ‘Walton Solar Eco-system’ as the chief guest at a grand event held at Walton’s corporate office in Bashundhara, Dhaka.

Also present at the event were Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Chairman S.M. Shamsul Alam, Vice-Chairman S.M. Ashraful Alam, Managing Director S.M. Mahbubul Alam, and Directors S.M. Rezaul Alam, S.M. Manjurul Alam Ovi, and Tahmina Afroze Tanna. Following the inauguration, the Finance Minister expressed his satisfaction after learning about the cutting-edge technology and energy-saving features of the products within the Walton Solar Eco-system. These included solar power generation panels, solar power cables, storage inverter batteries, solar-hybrid technology-based refrigerators, ACs, and smart TVs, as well as solar-powered washing machines, electric cookers, ovens, rice cookers, BLDC fans, solar-based pedestal and table fans, bulbs, and street lights. He highly praised Walton for creating new opportunities to save electricity through the integrated use of solar power and conventional grid electricity in solar-hybrid air conditioners, refrigerators, and smart televisions.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that solar energy is an eco-friendly power source. He noted that the initiative Walton is undertaking with solar energy is set to expand across Bangladesh. He added that significant amounts of electricity would be generated through solar power in the country over the next year or two, making it possible to meet public demand at a lower cost and reducing the need for fuel imports. This will result in savings of foreign currency and reduce reliance on external sources. Solar power can be used to operate not just lights, but a wide range of electronic appliances—including refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and ovens. We hope that people across the country will come forward to adopt solar energy.

S.M. Shamsul Alam, Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, stated that the 'Walton Solar Ecosystem' will play a pivotal role in helping customers save on electricity bills, promoting the use of renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and building a green, self-reliant Bangladesh.

S.M. Ashraful Alam, Vice-Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, noted that the Walton Solar Ecosystem is an integrated technological system capable of generating, storing, and feeding eco-friendly solar power into the national grid, while also enabling the production of solar-powered household appliances. He added that the solar ecosystem would open up new business prospects, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the company's financial standing and fundamentals to create long-term value for investors in the capital market.

S.M. Mahbubul Alam, Managing Director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, described the Walton Solar Ecosystem as an integrated technological system for the generation, storage, and efficient use of solar power. He emphasized that their objective goes beyond merely 'Made in Bangladesh'; they aim to showcase the nation's capabilities in the global market by driving technological innovation and development right here in Bangladesh.

He believes that by manufacturing 100% eco-friendly, renewable energy-based technology products under the Walton Solar Ecosystem, the company has elevated the technological excellence, progress, and capabilities of Bangladesh's high-tech industrial sector to unprecedented heights. It was announced at the event that Walton’s solar ecosystem utilizes hybrid technology to power ACs, refrigerators, and TVs. When there is sufficient sunlight, these hybrid-enabled appliances—including solar refrigerators, ACs, and smart TVs—operate directly on solar power without requiring batteries. If the solar power supply falls short of demand, the appliances automatically draw the deficit power from the grid to remain operational. Consequently, grid electricity consumption can be reduced based on solar power availability.

New models of solar-powered washing machines, cookers, and ovens have been added to the Walton solar ecosystem, incorporating Energy Storage System (ESS) technology. Electricity generated by solar panels during the day is stored in batteries for use in various household tasks at a later time.
