Garment Workers Form Human Chain in Ashulia Demanding Three Months of Unpaid Wages
Garment workers of Clothing Carnivals Limited form a human chain demanding three months of unpaid wages in the Bogabari area of Ashulia, Wednesday

Workers of a garment factory named Clothing Carnivals Limited staged a rally and human chain in Ashulia, demanding the immediate payment of three months' outstanding wages and allowances. The demonstration took place on Wednesday morning in the Bogabari area of Ashulia.

During the program, affected workers demanded the prompt settlement of all dues and the reopening of the closed factory. Leaders of worker federations and the aggrieved employees warned of tougher agitational programs if their demands are not met swiftly.

Speakers at the rally stated that nearly 200 workers of Clothing Carnivals Limited have fallen into severe financial distress due to the non-payment of wages for the past three months. This dire situation compelled them to take to the streets and join the human chain.

The affected workers shared that they had previously submitted memorandums to the Ashulia Industrial Police-1, the Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station to resolve the wage dispute. However, having received no effective support from either the administration or the factory management, they were forced to stage protests.

Workers complained that without income for three months, they are struggling to pay house rent, settle grocery debts, and cover basic daily expenses. Many reported that their children's education is on the verge of being halted. They urged the authorities to immediately pay their back wages and reopen the factory. Expressing solidarity with the movement, trade union leaders assured the workers of full legal assistance to realize their dues.

Labor leader Mohammad Akkas Ali Sagar stated that workers have announced plans to continue their protests until all outstanding wages and benefits are disbursed, warning that the movement will be intensified in the coming days. Attempts to contact the factory management for a comment were unsuccessful.
