Multilateral Lenders Respond Positively to Protect Bangladesh Economy, Says Finance Minister
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury briefing reporters on multilateral economic assistance and IMF proposal reviews.

Multilateral financial institutions, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have responded very positively toward financing and backing Bangladesh's economic policy frameworks, announced Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The Finance Minister disclosed the development on Friday morning (October 16, 2026) following a bilateral meeting with a high-level delegation from the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department (APD). Director of the IMF Asia and Pacific Department Krishna Srinivasan and senior financial delegates attended the discussion alongside Bangladeshi treasury officials.

Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury noted that the meeting featured open discussions regarding the final review of economic reform proposals submitted by Bangladesh. Confirming that all proposals were accepted in principle, he stated that technical teams from both sides are conducting detailed reviews to finalize operational details and close the agreements. Emphasizing the assessments of the IMF and World Bank, the minister added that both institutions fully comprehend the sensitivity and strategic importance of Bangladesh's current macroeconomic landscape. Industry analysts view the smooth progression of these financing channels as crucial for navigating global economic headwinds while sustaining domestic growth and monetary stability.
