A market survey conducted across key capital trading hubs—including Rayer Bazar and Mohammadpur Krishi Market—on Friday (October 16, 2026) revealed that despite the early arrival of winter produce, vegetable prices remain exceptionally high, leaving green papaya and sweet pumpkin as the only budget-friendly options.
Most fresh vegetables are retailing at or above Tk 80 per kilogram. Early-season winter crops like hyacinth beans (shim) are selling at Tk 160/kg, while tomatoes range between Tk 180 and Tk 200/kg depending on quality. Cauliflower, ridge gourd (jhinga), pointed gourd (patol), taro stem (kachur mukhi), and lady's finger are retailed at Tk 80/kg, while eggplants (begun) and teasel gourds (kakrol) cost Tk 100/kg. In contrast, green papaya at Tk 30/kg and sweet pumpkin at Tk 50/kg provide the only relief.
Consumer relief was visible in the green chili segment, where prices dropped to Tk 120–140/kg. In the poultry and livestock sector, farm eggs decreased by Tk 10 to sell at Tk 140 per dozen (or 4 pieces for Tk 50). Broiler chicken held steady at Tk 180/kg, Sonali chicken at Tk 310/kg, and beef remained unchanged at Tk 800/kg. In the fish market, prices remained stable with Ruhi retailed between Tk 380–500/kg, Tilapia at Tk 250–260/kg, Pangas at Tk 220–230/kg, and cultured prawns between Tk 1,000–1,300/kg depending on size and freshness.
