Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is deploying 15 platoons across Chapainawabganj district to safeguard Durga Puja mandaps, ensuring peaceful and secure celebrations for the Hindu community during their largest religious festival.
Personnel drawn from three stationed BGB battalions—53 BGB, 59 BGB, and 16 BGB—will remain on active duty from Friday, October 16, through immersion day on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The commanding officers of all three battalions confirmed the operational plan following preparatory patrols and reconnaissance drives.
Detailing the distribution, Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, Commanding Officer of 53 BGB, stated that his battalion will deploy 4 platoons for 10 mandaps in border areas including Monakasha (Shibganj), Wahedpur and Hakimpur (Sadar), and adjacent Godagari. An additional 2 platoons will guard 10 mandaps near battalion headquarters, while 2 extra platoons remain on standby for emergency response. Lieutenant Colonel Al Amin Opu, CO of 59 BGB, announced that 5 platoons will protect 13 mandaps in his sector—12 within 8 km of the international border—supported by two newly established base camps. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Arifur Rahman Masum, CO of 16 BGB, confirmed that 4 platoons will secure 17 mandaps in Gomastapur upazila, with 2 standby platoons prepared for rapid intervention. BGB units will maintain heightened intelligence surveillance to prevent communal provocation, counter fake rumors, and safeguard Bangladesh's long-standing tradition of interfaith harmony.
