In a massive overnight anti-gang operation conducted by police and the Detective Branch (DB) across all 18 upazilas of Cumilla, authorities detained 252 individuals from Thursday evening until Friday dawn (October 9, 2026).
District Police Media Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfur Rahman confirmed the drive, noting that it was carried out under the directives of Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman to target known hotspots of youth delinquency and curb adolescent crimes.
With this latest sixth phase, the total number of detainees since the statewide crackdown began on September 23 has climbed to 2,294. Police reported that out of the previous 2,042 detainees from the first five phases, 1,409 were released into the custody of their families upon formal undertakings after thorough verification, while legal actions were pursued against the rest based on specific criminal involvements, pending warrants, or drug-related offenses.
Authorities have assured that regular monitoring continues to ensure innocent youths are not harassed while safeguarding public safety.
