In a heart-wrenching incident in Pabna’s Santhia upazila, an elderly and ailing woman named Munni Khatun (50) was forced to lodge a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) after her son, Sagar Hossain (30)—who works as a village police member under Nagdemra Union Parishad—refused to keep her in his home despite agreeing to provide financial maintenance.

During a hearing at the UNO’s office on Thursday afternoon (October 8, 2026), presided over by UNO Selim Ahmed, the accused son remained unyielding, declaring that he would rather commit suicide than keep his mother with him and asking the authorities to simply dictate how much monthly allowance he should pay.

Left widowed and with a married daughter, the heart patient mother expressed her profound grief, stating she desires no money but merely wants the rightful shelter of her son's home in her final days.

While local union parishad chairman Hafizul Islam noted that community-level mediation efforts had previously failed, UNO Selim Ahmed granted the son a few days to reconsider and reach a humane solution, warning of subsequent administrative action if he fails to comply.
