Police have detained six members of an inter-district robbery gang, including its kingpin Shawon, following a seven-and-a-half-hour joint operation in the Yearpur area of industrial hub Ashulia. During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered 10 to 12 sharp domestic weapons and two motorcycles from their possession. Sub-Inspector (SI) Rasheduzzaman of the Jamgora Police Camp under Ashulia Police Station confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon (October 12, 2026).

According to police sources, law enforcement stumbled upon the inter-district robbery gang while investigating a case filed with Kashimpur Police Station. Tracking the investigation leads, police identified the location of Shawon, the identified leader of the ring, and launched a joint raid to apprehend him.

Police stated that the suspects were renting a semi-pucca residence owned by one Mottaleb in the Jamgora area of Yearpur. When police cordoned off the building, the occupants resisted, attempted to attack police officers with sharp weapons, and broke three to four internal doors sequentially in a bid to escape and block the officers. Operation team members also rescued a female garment worker who was taken hostage with a knife held to her throat by the suspects during the standoff. Multiple police teams subsequently breached the premises and detained all six individuals.

Initial interrogation revealed that the detainees are active members of an organized inter-district robbery gang involved in armed robberies and muggings across Tongibari, Jirabo, Kashimpur, and adjacent areas. Further legal procedures against the detainees are currently underway.
