A mobile court in Munshiganj has sentenced eight fishermen to five days of imprisonment each for defying the government ban and catching mother Hilsa in the Padma River. The illegal fishermen were detained during a joint raid by the Louhajang Upazila Administration, River Police, and Coast Guard on Saturday (October 24) morning, conducted under the direct supervision and presence of local Member of Parliament Advocate Abdus Salam Azad.

During the operation, authorities seized 50,000 meters of banned current nets and two kilograms of Hilsa. The mobile court was conducted by Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farzana Boby Mitu.

According to the Louhajang Upazila Administration, regular patrols and special drives are being executed in the Padma River to protect the breeding season and boost national Hilsa production. Upazila authorities reaffirmed that strict legal measures will continue against anyone violating the law by poaching Hilsa during the breeding season.
