Staff Reporter, Pabna: Following the demolition of the house of Mostafa Kamal, the prime accused in the rape and murder of 10-year-old child Kamrunnahar Koli in Kulonia village under Dogachhi union of Pabna Sadar Upazila, angry locals have now begun excavating and looting the soil from the property. The complete destruction of the house, down to removing the soil, has created a major stir in the area while raising questions from relatives regarding the role of the police.

The demolition work, which began after Jummah prayers on Friday, September 18, continued through Saturday, October 24. Visiting the site on Saturday afternoon, the two-story house was found entirely reduced to rubble, leaving no trace of a building. Even foundation reinforcement rods had been cut out from beneath the ground, while bricks and sand were transported away and sold, according to local residents. Solim Pramanik, a laborer excavating soil from the house, stated, "As punishment for Mostafa's heinous crime, we are not leaving his house standing. We are taking the soil to use on roads and for our own household needs, and we will turn this site into a pond." Rubel Hasan from Madhpur area of Ataikula added, "No trace of rapist and murderer Mostafa's house will remain. Leave alone bricks, not a single grain of sand will stay here. This place will become a pond as an example of what happens to a rapist."

Meanwhile, as the house demolition nears completion, the victim's relatives have expressed frustration and anger over the failure to conclude the investigation and submit a chargesheet. The victim's grandfather, Abdus Sobhan, said, "The chargesheet has still not been filed. It should have been submitted by now, which seems to indicate administrative negligence." Another relative, Ramzan Ali, demanded speedy legal proceedings and urged the administration to work sincerely.

In response, Pabna District Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam stated that the case is making progress, forensic reports have reportedly arrived at the hospital, and a chargesheet will be submitted shortly, emphasizing that there is no room for negligence in the case.

For context, third-grader Kamrunnahar Koli went missing from her home after sunset on September 9, and her body was recovered wrapped in a sack from a ditch near her home seven days later on September 16. Police subsequently arrested neighbor Mostafa Kamal and his tenant Yasin Ali, stating that Mostafa confessed during remand to raping and strangling Koli in a room behind his shop after Maghrib on September 9 before dumping the body, while Yasin admitted to helping conceal the crime.
