Dr. Saimum Parvez, the Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has stated that all brick kilns burning wood will be phased out and completely shut down. He made these remarks on Monday afternoon (October 12, 2026) after inaugurating the newly constructed building of Shyampur Haji Momtaz Miah Degree College in Shibganj upazila, Chapainawabganj. He further noted that the Prime Minister has given strict directives to stop burning wood in brick kilns, and they will be gradually replaced by environmentally friendly concrete blocks, making buildings stronger while protecting the environment.

He also warned that strict legal action will be taken if any dishonest syndicates within the administration attempt to reopen such kilns.

Following the event, he planted tree saplings on the college premises. Among others present were Shibganj Upazila BNP Convener Ashraful Huq, Member Secretary Tosikul Alam, Chapainawabganj Education Engineering Department Executive Engineer Hakimul Hasan Siddiqui, and College Principal Faruque Ahmed, along with other local dignitaries.
