Teacher leaders in Bera, Pabna, have been accused of demanding 300 taka per primary school teacher under the guise of accounts office processing and data entry fees, accompanied by threats of future administrative complications for those refusing to pay.

It is learned that secret collections are being levied on approximately 700 teachers across 112 primary schools in Bera upazila for new salary determinations or pay fixation. Multiple teachers reported that headmasters are being pressured via phone calls to collect 300 taka per teacher for accounts office work and data entry expenses.

Fingers have been pointed at Upazila Education Association President Farooq Hossain and General Secretary Helal Uddin regarding these allegations. Upon investigation, a teacher named Monirul Islam was seen recording names in a ledger book while collecting money from teachers inside the education office.

Teacher Monirul Islam stated that this money is being collected with the consent of Education Association members as writing expenses. On the other hand, Upazila Education Officer Saiful Islam stated that explicit directives have been issued forbidding any form of monetary collection from teachers under the name of pay fixation, and no office officials are involved.

However, Bera Upazila Nirbahi Officer Runant Chakma stated that if any irregularities or forced extortions occur surrounding critical administrative processes like salary and allowance determination, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
