In Savar, Dhaka, allegations have surfaced that government-allocated rice grants for the Sharadiya Durga Puja were withdrawn from the upazila food warehouse by forging the signatures of temple committee presidents and secretaries, sparking widespread anger among the local Hindu community. Affected leaders have demanded a thorough investigation, alleging that a powerful syndicate may be involved in similar fraudulent withdrawals across multiple mandaps in the upazila.
According to sources, the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry allocated 600 kg of rice as a government grant to 234 temples in Savar upazila for Durga Puja this year, a figure confirmed by Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Md. Faizul Islam. Per regulations, delivery orders (DO) must be collected from the PIO's office, and committee heads must physically sign at the upazila food controller's office to process the warehouse release. However, leaders like Shambhu Chandra Sarkar (General Secretary of Gurudoyal Polaner Angina Sarbajubin Durga Mandir), Ashish Chandra Nath (President of Narsinghpur Sarbajubin Durga Mandir), Subimal Adhikari (President of Naihati Sarkar Bari Sarbajubin Durga Mandir), and Pradip Roy (General Secretary of Mahamaya Sarbajubin Durga Mandir) claimed their signatures were forged without their knowledge to siphon off the allocated rice.
