Allegations of irregularities and bribery have surfaced regarding the handover of a compensation check worth 7,639,966 Taka for land acquisition under the Hili-Joypurhat road widening project in Hakimpur, Dinajpur. Claiming to be the actual sufferer, a man named Md. Asaman Ali has demanded the suspension of the check's encashment and a proper investigation into the incident.**

He made these allegations in a written statement at a press conference held at the Hakimpur Press Club on Saturday (November 6 [Note: November 7]).

Asaman Ali stated that he purchased six decimals of land in Hili Basudebpur mouza through a deed in 2020 for the road widening project. He had constructed structures on the land with his own funds and was running a business there. Subsequently, following verification by the district administration's land acquisition branch, compensation of 7,639,966.56 Taka was allocated in his name for the structures.

He alleged that despite submitting necessary documents and evidence during the hearing, without any written order, the compensation check was handed over to another land owner, Mobarak Hossain, last Thursday (November 5).

Furthermore, he accused Zia, a surveyor from the land acquisition branch, of demanding a bribe of 1 million Taka to release the compensation funds and of taking 70,000 Taka in several installments.

At the press conference, Asaman Ali demanded the blocking of the check's encashment as soon as the bank opens on Sunday (November 8), the disbursement of his rightful dues as the genuine claimant, and legal action against the accused through the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and departmental investigation.
