An anti-drug human chain was organized at the Kolikata-Bhogdia Bazar in Bejgaon union of Louhajang upazila, Munshiganj, with the call to protect the youth from the ravages of drugs and build a strong social resistance against drug addicts and drug traffickers.

On Friday (October 30) afternoon, people from various strata of life participated in the human chain organized by local residents in front of the Kolikata-Bhogdia rural market structure building.

Addressing the human chain, Maulana Nurul Islam said that such anti-drug initiatives should have been adopted in every village. Social resistance must be built against drugs to eradicate drug use and dealers.

He further stated that everyone must be aware and united to prevent the spread of drugs.

Local mosque Imam Zobair Hossain remarked that everyone must raise their voice against drugs. If society unites to protest, drug abusers and sellers will be discouraged. He called for increasing religious and social awareness against drugs alongside taking legal action against offenders.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Borhan Sheikh said that if everyone in the area unites to protest against drugs, it is possible to rescue the youth from the destructive clutches of drugs. To achieve this, everyone must play a responsible role from their respective positions.

Manik Mia, Member of Ward No. 6 of Bejgaon Union and Panel Chairman of the Union Parishad, delivered a speech at the human chain. He said that many people know who consumes and sells drugs in the area, but due to various reasons, effective resistance has not been possible. Occasionally, individuals are arrested with drugs by law enforcement agencies and sent to jail, only to be released on bail or through other processes. However, this time the local residents have united against drugs. Through drug trafficking and consumption, individuals are destroying themselves as well as the youth of the area. The residents will no longer tolerate such activities, he added.

The human chain was moderated by Mujahid Mohammad Rezaul Karim.

At that time, local dignitaries and around a hundred residents of the area were present. Speakers called for an active role by the administration in eradicating drugs, conducting regular drives, increasing social awareness, and continuing the anti-drug movement.
