The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection conducted a raid in the Kuturia and Amtola areas of Ashulia, Savar, on Sunday afternoon (October 4, 2026), penalizing two establishments a total of Tk 2,10,000 for selling 12 kg LPG cylinders above government-mandated prices. Led by Dhaka District Assistant Director Md. Hasanuzzaman, the drive targeted Messers Haji Abdur Rahman Enterprise, a distributor of Jamuna and BM LPG in Amtola, which was fined Tk 10,000 due to discrepancies in purchase and sale invoices. Following that, Iqbal Enterprise was raided and its owner, Iqbal Hossain, was fined Tk 2,00,000 after authorities found evidence of overpricing, illegal refilling of smaller bottles from larger ones, and filling gas cylinders with water.

While the official price for a 12 kg LPG cylinder stands at Tk 1,585, residents in industrial areas like Ashulia have been forced to buy them for Tk 2,000 to Tk 2,400, causing severe distress to low-income earners. Officials warned that repeated offenses will result in strict sealing of the businesses.
