In a joint operation conducted by the Coast Guard and police along the Kacha and Baleshwar rivers, a massive haul of 22,581 pieces of smuggled Indian sarees, three-pieces, and lehengas packed in 303 sacks was seized along with a fishing trawler named FB Haji Peyar (Registration: F-11549). Acting on a tip-off, a Coast Guard patrol team initiated a chase from Pathorghata's Madhya Chardowani Union area on Saturday dawn (October 3, 2026), eventually intercepting the suspicious vessel near the old Bekutia ferry terminal area in Kumirmara under the Kacha River. Although the occupants fled during the operation, a thorough search led by Pirojpur Sadar Police Station officials recovered the contraband.
Additional Superintendent of Police Nasrin Jahan confirmed the inventory count, while Sadar Police Station OC Md. Shariful Islam and case plaintiff SI Syed Farhad Ali stated that legal actions and a formal case have been initiated by the police, with Superintendent of Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirming efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects.
