A brazen attempt to grab ancestral property in the Boropara area of Hashimpur union under Chandanaish upazila has resulted in the vandalism of a residence, looting of valuables, and the physical assault of two women. Following the incident, the victim, Peyar Mohammad (40), filed a written complaint naming 10 individuals at the Chandanaish Police Station.
According to the complaint, a long-standing dispute over ancestral land prompted the accused perpetrators to raid the victim's home on the night of October 25, armed with machetes, iron rods, and sticks. The attackers smashed a tin-shed house, causing an estimated Tk 1.5 lakh in damage. When the victim's cousin, Noor Akter (42), and stepmother, Jahanara Begum (50), attempted to intervene, they were brutally beaten, injured with iron rods and sticks, and subjected to attempted molestation.
The assailants then broke into the main brick-built house, forcing open a wardrobe to loot Tk 1,20,000 in cash and 2 bhori of gold jewelry valued at approximately Tk 4 lakh. Neighbors rushed to the scene and rescued the injured women, while the perpetrators issued open death threats, warning of grave consequences if the victims pursued legal action. Peyar Mohammad subsequently rushed home, rescued the victims, and had them admitted to the Chandanaish Upazila Health Complex for treatment, attaching medical prescriptions to the police complaint.
Chandanaish Police Station’s Inspector (Investigation) Md. Alamgir stated that a written complaint has been received and legal action will be taken promptly following an investigation. Local residents have strongly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved.
