A local BNP leader, Md. Siddikur Rahman (55), was killed after being crushed under a waste-carrying lorry belonging to Naris Poultry and Hatchery Limited in Sreepur, Gazipur. Locals apprehended the lorry driver and handed him over to the police following the incident on Saturday (October 24) afternoon in the Sreepur municipal town railway crossing area.
The victim, Siddikur Rahman, was the son of the late Hashen Ali from Ward No. 1 of Sreepur Municipality and served as the former publicity and publication secretary of the municipal BNP. According to eyewitnesses, Siddikur Rahman was walking along the side of the road near the railway crossing when the lorry hit him from behind. He fell onto the road and was crushed under the rear wheels, dying on the spot.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam stated that the victim's body has been recovered from the scene, the involved lorry has been seized, and the driver has been detained. Subsequent legal action will be taken based on a complaint from the victim's relatives.
