The district administration and municipality jointly launched a cleanliness and eviction drive in Pirojpur on Saturday (September 19) starting at 9:00 AM to combat dengue and clear illegal encroachments from government canals.
Cleanup and eviction operations were carried out along the Napitkhali canal in Shikarpur, the Kumarkhali canal along the Police Line road, and the canal adjacent to the PTI-Boddhapara area. The drive saw active participation from Deputy Commissioner Abu Said, Municipal Administrator Mahmudur Rahman Mamun, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Iftekharul Islam Shamim, Di-Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Mehedi Hasan, Positive Pirojpur President Habibur Rahman, and various volunteers and organizational representatives.
Deputy Commissioner Abu Said stated that to prevent dengue, residential surroundings must be kept clean, and Aedes mosquito breeding grounds destroyed. He urged individuals who illegally constructed structures over government canals to clear them voluntarily, warning of legal consequences otherwise.
Later, while returning from inspecting the mouth of the canal near PTI-Boddhapara, an old bridge suddenly collapsed. Four individuals—Pirojpur Municipality Surveyor Supti Halder Chanchal, Positive Pirojpur General Secretary and GTV Pirojpur Correspondent Naim Talukdar, Organization Vice President Zubayer Al Mamun, and social activist Gazi Kamruzzaman Shubhra—sustained injuries. They were rushed to the Pirojpur District Hospital for treatment. Upon learning of the incident, Deputy Commissioner Abu Said and District Council Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain visited the hospital to check on the injured.
The three-month-long cleanliness campaign against dengue in Pirojpur is scheduled to continue with activities organized every Saturday until December 12.
