Coal extraction has officially resumed at the Barapukuria Coal Mine in Parbatipur, Dinajpur, following a two-month operational hiatus. While trial extraction commenced from the newly prepared 1405 face on Thursday, full-scale commercial extraction began on Friday morning.

Mining operations were halted on August 12, 2026, after coal reserves at the previous 1309 face were exhausted, yielding a total of 415,000 metric tons. Over the past two months, mining engineers and technical staff completed the relocation of heavy machinery and equipment from the old seam to the new 1405 face. Following technical preparations, 215 metric tons of coal were extracted during trial operations on Thursday, followed by 822 metric tons on Friday, which was dispatched to the adjacent Power Development Board (PDB) thermal power plant.

Khan Mohammad Zafar Sadiq, General Manager (Mine Operation) of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited, confirmed that approximately 600,000 metric tons of coal currently remain in the mine yard stockpile. He added that the production target for the newly opened 1405 face has been set at approximately 280,000 metric tons.
