A massive stir of discussion and criticism is sweeping across the Parbatipur railway junction following allegations that the Railway Security Force (RSF) detained and subsequently released a scrap trader alongside a thief, after recovering stolen copper lightning arrester cables from the scrap shop belonging to the Central Locomotive Workshop (CELW) in Parbatipur, Dinajpur.

According to information obtained from the Railway Security Force responsible for the security of the Parbatipur Central Locomotive Workshop, Ferdous Sarker—an employee of contractor Saju engaged in contractual work at the factory—cut and stole 43 feet of copper lightning arrester cables (cables) installed on the roof of the factory's main building at any time during the day on October 24. Thief Ferdous sold the stolen cables to scrap trader Sumon's shop in the Puratan Bazar area of Parbatipur town. When whispering began among factory employees, RSF Inspector Md. Ilyas Ali, on duty at the factory, felt compelled to protect his own position and detained contractor Saju's employee Ferdous Sarker inside the factory to initiate interrogation. During interrogation, Ferdous confessed to the theft. Inspector Ilyas Ali, accompanied by his force and the thief, conducted a raid that evening at scrap trader Sumon's shop in Puratan Bazar, recovered 5 kilograms of the stolen lightning arrester copper cables cut into pieces (totaling 43 feet), detained scrap trader Sumon, and brought him to the security force office. Later, under pressure from influential quarters and through a financial settlement involving a hefty sum, scrap trader Sumon was released on a bond.

The following morning on October 25, Inspector Ilyas Ali had thief Ferdous sentenced to 5 days of rigorous imprisonment by Parbatipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Arafat Aman Aziz through a mobile court. This controversial action by the security force has sparked widespread murmurs and rumors among factory workers and residents of Parbatipur town.

When questioned about the incident, Inspector Ilyas Ali confirmed the truth of the event and stated that the thief Ferdous, involved in the theft, was sentenced to 5 days of rigorous imprisonment by the mobile court, while scrap trader Sumon was released on a written bond into the custody of local BNP leader Zubayer Hossain. However, he denied any monetary transactions took place.
