CHANDANAISH, CHATTOGRAM: A rented house belonging to a school headmaster was burgled in broad daylight in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram after burglars allegedly broke the door lock and stole gold jewellery, cash and cheque books worth approximately Tk 19.5 lakh.

The incident reportedly took place between 9:30 am and 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28, at a rented apartment on the third floor of Zakir Mansion in Moulvibazar, Ward No. 9, under Borkal Union of the upazila.

The victim, Nurul Kabir Chowdhury, 54, has filed a written complaint with Chandanaish Police Station. He is the headmaster of Borkal Abdul Hai Anwara Begum Girls’ High School and College. His wife, Hanifa Begum, is a senior teacher at Kanaimadari Qaderia Sunnia Dakhil Madrasa.

According to the complaint, the couple locked their house and left for their respective workplaces in the morning. At around 1:00 pm, their 13-year-old daughter, Nafisa Mobasshira, returned home from school and found the door lock broken.

Upon entering the house, she discovered that household belongings and clothes had been scattered around the rooms and that a steel almirah had been left open.

The complainant alleged that the burglars took seven vori of gold jewellery belonging to his wife, including three chains, one necklace, one bracelet and two rings, valued at approximately Tk 17 lakh. The stolen items also included Tk 2.5 lakh in cash and three cheque books.

The total value of the stolen property is estimated at Tk 19.5 lakh, according to the complainant.

Nurul Kabir Chowdhury said the filing of the police complaint was delayed because the family first questioned nearby residents and held discussions within the family.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector Touhid of Chandanaish Police Station said police had visited the scene following the complaint. He added that legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
