Dengue Surge Hits Ishwardi Amid Severe Neglect by Local Municipal Authorities
Patients receiving medical treatment at the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex in Pabna as dengue cases continue to rise across the municipality.

Dengue cases are surging rapidly across Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna, with local residents expressing mounting anger over the complete inaction of municipal and local authorities regarding vector control and mosquito eradication.

According to Dr. Shobhan Kumar Paul, Ishwardi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, at least 15 dengue patients were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex between October 1 and October 6 alone.

While 12 patients have been discharged following treatment, several remain hospitalized alongside numerous patients admitted to private clinics and diagnostic centers across the municipality.

Health officials warned that patient numbers could escalate sharply if immediate anti-mosquito measures are not implemented. Local residents reported that broken drainage systems and clogged waterways across the first-class municipality have turned into active mosquito breeding grounds.

With no larviciding or fogging operations conducted by the municipality or across all seven union parishads, civil society groups have demanded immediate intervention, warning that aggrieved citizens may stage protest rallies and blockade programs if authorities fail to act.
