The Upazila Fisheries Department conducted a special anti-illegal fishing drive in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah, under the fisheries protection and conservation laws.

Led by Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Imran Hossain—accompanied by a police team led by Shailkupa Police Station SI Tarikul Islam—the operation took place on Saturday around the Devtola and Damukdia ghat areas of the Kumar River.

A total of 77 illegal 'China Duoari' nets, with an estimated market value of around Tk 4 lakh, were seized during the raid.

The confiscated nets were later publicly burned and destroyed near the Kabirpur new bridge. Officer Md. Imran Hossain stressed that China Duoari nets devastate fish populations and aquatic biodiversity, warning that regular crackdowns will continue and strict legal action will be taken against anyone using or selling banned nets.
