Discontent has surfaced among a section of grassroots field workers during the development meeting and prize distribution ceremony of National Life Insurance PLC in Osmaninagar, Sylhet. They have alleged that despite contributing to the institution's development and success, they are facing discrimination in terms of proper evaluation, benefits, and the quality of food.

The event was organized on Tuesday (October 20) afternoon at the organization's regional office in Tajpur of the upazila. The event was graced by National Life Insurance PLC Sylhet Area Manager A. S. M. Sajjadur Rahman as the chief guest. Golayabazar Zonal Head Abdul Mumin and Tajpur Assistant Zonal Head Suma Begum served as special guests.

Conducted by Sherpur Organizational Office AGM Ala Mia, officials and workers from various levels addressed the event. The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Later, prizes and gifts were distributed among various clients and officials in recognition of their success and contributions in the workplace.

Highlighting the importance of life insurance, speakers at the event said that swift settlement of insurance claims, transparency, and accountability are extremely crucial to ensure the financial security of clients. They also emphasized improving the quality of customer service and building public trust regarding insurance.

However, towards the end of the event, discontent erupted among a section of field workers centering on the serving of midday meals. They alleged that although they participated in the meeting for a long time from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, relatively low-quality food—specifically plain pulao—was served to them. On the other hand, they claimed that various items including beef and chicken were arranged for the senior officials.

Some angry field workers said, "We work day and night under adverse conditions to collect insurance. Grassroots workers have a significant contribution to expanding the business of the institution. Yet, the expected importance is not given in terms of proper evaluation of our labor and benefits."

They demanded that the contribution of field workers to the institution's development must be properly recognized. Additionally, they demanded a respectful environment, fair benefits for workers, and equal importance for everyone in organizing events.

Regarding this matter, an attempt was made to contact Sylhet Area Manager A. S. M. Sajjadur Rahman over his mobile phone to get his statement, but he did not receive the call. Consequently, the statement of the relevant authorities regarding the field workers' allegations could not be obtained.

Relevant individuals believe that the matter will become clearer once the authorities' explanation regarding the field workers' allegations is received.
