RAB-7 (SRB-7) arrested a drug peddler named Md. Farhad-Uz-Zaman Joy (34) along with 9,620 Yaba tablets after conducting a drive on a passenger bus belonging to Marsa Transport in Chandanaish, Chattogram.

The arrested Md. Farhad-Uz-Zaman Joy is the son of Md. Idris Mia from the East Mansa area of Kusumpura Union under Patiya Upazila of Chattogram District.

On Tuesday (October 20) afternoon, acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-7 set up a checkpoint and searched the bus in the Gachbaria Bainyapukur Par area (Ward No. 8) of Chandanaish Municipality on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway.

According to the statement (ejahar), during the search, a total of 9,620 Yaba tablets were recovered from his possession—9,600 tablets wrapped in blue polythene across 48 packets (200 pieces each) and an additional 20 pieces in another packet. At a rate of Tk 300 per piece, the estimated market value of the recovered Yaba is Tk 2.886 million.

RAB-7 stated that the detained Md. Farhad-Uz-Zaman Joy is a notorious drug peddler. For a long time, he had been procuring Yaba from the Cox's Bazar border area and selling it in Chattogram.

Regarding the incident, SCPO (Ex) Md. Mizanur Rahman (Navy) of Chattogram Chandgaon Camp, CPC-3, RAB-7, acted as the plaintiff and filed a case against him at Chandanaish Police Station around midnight on Tuesday under section 36(1) table 10(c) of the Narcotics Control Act 2018.

In this regard, Chandanaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) S. M. Didarul Islam Sikdar said, "The accused arrested in the RAB-7 operation has been handed over to the police station. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotics Control Act. Our drives against drugs will continue. He will be produced before the learned court on Wednesday morning."
