Allegations have surfaced against former President Mozaharul Islam Surjo and Acting Superintendent ATM Mahfuzar Rahman for secretly cutting and selling 16 trees from the land of Dhabshyampur Khoirati Siddiqia Dimukhi Dakhil Madrasa under Gopalpur Union in Mithapukur, Rangpur. Md. Abdul Jalil, a donor member of the madrasa, has submitted a written complaint to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) requesting an investigation.

According to the complaint filed on Wednesday (October 7), former governing body president Md. Mozaharul Islam Surjo and Acting Superintendent Maulvi ATM Mahfuzar Rahman allegedly stole and sold 14 mango trees, one eucalyptus, and one acacia tree from the madrasa's mango orchard on October 1.

A spot visit confirmed tree stumps on the madrasa grounds. Laborers Anjarul Islam and Jewel Miah, who cut the trees, stated they acted under the instructions of Mozaharul Islam Surjo, who then transported the timber to a local market for sale.

Locals alleged that similar incidents had occurred previously, claiming that the former president and acting superintendent have long misused their influence to appropriate institutional assets.

When contacted by phone, accused former president Mozaharul Islam Surjo stated he was in Dhaka and declined to comment further until returning home. Meanwhile, Acting Superintendent ATM Mahfuzar Rahman denied any knowledge of the incident over the phone.

Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Parvez confirmed receiving the written complaint, stating that necessary legal actions will be taken following a thorough investigation.
