Saif MD Enam, son of former State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Enamur Rahman, has been accused of assaulting and humiliating Saimun Islam Hridoy, general secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) unit at Enam Medical College.
The victim filed a written complaint with Savar Model Police Station on Wednesday night, October 28, following the alleged incident in front of Bismillah Tower, west of Enam Medical College Hospital on Thana Road in Savar municipality.
Saif MD Enam, 27, is the son of former state minister Dr. Enamur Rahman. Both Saif and Saimun Islam Hridoy, also 27, are former students of Enam Medical College and belonged to the same academic batch. According to the written complaint, the two had a history of disputes dating back to their college days.
Saimun alleged that he was assaulted following an argument over political affiliations. He further claimed that he had faced mental and physical harassment on several occasions while studying at Enam Medical College.
According to the complaint, Saif stopped Saimun on Tuesday night in front of Bismillah Tower, near the western side of Enam Medical College Hospital, while riding a motorcycle. Saif allegedly made insulting remarks about Saimun's involvement in Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) politics.
Saimun claimed that when he protested against the remarks, Saif slapped him repeatedly and physically humiliated him. He also alleged that Saif threatened to kill him and dispose of his body if an opportunity arose.
Attempts were made to contact Saif MD Enam by phone for his response to the allegations. However, after he could not be reached, several calls were made to his mother, Rowshan Akter Chowdhury, but she did not answer. Consequently, his response to the allegations could not be obtained.
Mohammad Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, confirmed that the police had received the complaint and recorded it as a general diary (GD).
He said legal action would be taken after the investigation.
