The burial of freedom fighter Manik Pashari (87) was completed under strict police security at his family home in Chitalia village under Shankarpasha Union of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila around 2:00 AM on Sunday (October 25). The burial followed hours of controversy and debate surrounding his state guard of honor. According to family members, Manik Pashari had testified against Jamaat leader Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee at the International Crimes Tribunal in a crimes against humanity case.

Family sources alleged that when his body was brought to the Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad premises at noon on Saturday (October 24), complications arose regarding the guard of honor due to objections raised by local Jamaat activists and some residents. Police subsequently assisted in taking the body to the Pirojpur Police Lines, where state honors were accorded at around 5:00 PM—five hours after the initial dispute. The body was then kept under the custody of Sadar Police Station until officers escorted it to his village home at 1:00 AM, concluding the burial at 2:00 AM in the presence of his wife, children, relatives, and locals.

Assistant Secretary of Pirojpur District Jamaat-e-Islami Abdur Razzaq denied allegations of interference, stating that Jamaat leaders do not politicize deceased individuals and had assisted the police with the funeral. Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shariful Islam confirmed the burial under tight security, adding that additional police forces have been deployed near the grave to prevent any untoward incidents. Family members noted that Manik Pashari had been staying outside his residence since August 5, 2024, moving between Jhashore and Gopalganj, before passing away due to prolonged illness in Tungipara, Gopalganj, on Saturday morning.
