A housewife named Lamia Bristi (19) was allegedly killed by having her throat slit by her husband, Rabiul Chhoyal, in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur. The incident occurred on Monday (November 2) around 8:00 PM in Koneshwar village under Koneshwar union. Police have arrested the accused husband in connection with the incident.

According to police and local sources, Lamia and Rabiul were married six years ago following a romantic relationship. Ever since their marriage, Rabiul had been involved in drug addiction and peddling, which frequently led to domestic disputes between them. A week ago, Lamia asked Rabiul to give up drug consumption and selling, warning that she would otherwise divorce him and leave for her father's house.

On Monday, Lamia was called to her husband's house under the pretext of settling their family dispute. Following a local arbitration, the matter was resolved. However, after everyone departed following the arbitration, another altercation broke out between Lamia and Rabiul. At one point, he allegedly dragged her near a ditch beside a neighboring house, slit her throat with a sharp weapon, threw her body into the ditch, and fled the scene.

Later, Lamia's younger brother, Obaidul Madabor, went looking for her and found her lying in the ditch. She passed away on the way to the hospital after being rescued.

The victim's mother, Shahida Akter, stated that Rabiul had been involved in drug abuse and selling ever since the marriage. Because her daughter protested against this, he frequently beat her. A General Diary (GD) was also lodged at the police station regarding the matter. She added that her daughter was called home under the guise of settling a family dispute, only to receive the news shortly after that her throat had been slit. She demanded a fair trial for the murder.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Damudya Police Station Md. Jahangir Alam stated that the accused Rabiul was arrested following the incident through mobile phone tracking. The matter is under investigation, and legal action will be taken based on the complaint.
