The Indian side has suspended goods supply to Sonamasjid Land Port in Chapainawabganj since morning. This situation arose following directives requiring Indian truck drivers and assistants awaiting cargo unloading to stay overnight inside the port premises.
General Secretary of the C&F Agents Association Md. Ruhul Amin stated that after entering the port with goods, Indian truck drivers and assistants typically returned to India while awaiting unloading. Subsequently, allegations surfaced regarding them carrying illegal goods, including narcotics, upon re-entering Bangladesh. Several individuals have been apprehended in past incidents of a similar nature, he noted.
Consequently, in accordance with rules, Indian truck drivers and assistants were instructed to remain inside the port premises overnight until goods are unloaded. In retaliation, the Indian side suspended dispatching goods-laden trucks to Sonamasjid Land Port starting Thursday morning. Discussions among concerned parties are ongoing to resolve the issue, Ruhul Amin added.
