Jamaat-e-Islami Holds Protest Rally in Betagi Demanding Justice for October 28, 2006 Killings
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists take part in a protest rally in Betagi, Barguna, on October 28, 2026, demanding justice for the violence and killings of October 28, 2006.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Betagi upazila unit held a protest rally on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, demanding justice for the violence and killings that took place on October 28, 2006.

The rally was organised by the Betagi upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami and began at 4:00 pm. Participants called for those responsible for the violence in 2006 to be brought to justice.

Among those attending the rally were Kazi Md. Sohrab Hossain, Ameer of Betagi upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, and Shahadat Hossain Munna, general secretary of the upazila unit, along with party leaders and activists from various unions across the upazila.

Speaking after the rally, the participants condemned the violence that occurred on October 28, 2006, involving sticks and oars, commonly referred to as the “logi-boitha” violence. They demanded a fair investigation into the incidents and called for those responsible to be identified, brought under the law and tried without delay.

The speakers further said that ensuring justice for past acts of violence and killings would help establish the rule of law and prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future.

The programme concluded with renewed calls for accountability and justice for the victims of the 2006 violence.
