Land Harassment Allegations Against Sister-in-Law in Nalta: Investigation Brings Relief
The historic Boro Bari premises in Nalta, Satkhira, where a land dispute involving family members was recently investigated.

Disputes and unrest have escalated over a minor land complication at the "Boro Bari" Choudhury family home in Paikara village, Nalta, under Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira. The property is widely known as the residence of the late Ansar Uddin Ahmed, the former Khadem of the revered Nalta Pak Roza Sharif. However, a dispute over inheriting less than two decimals of land has led to intense litigation, friction, and chaos within this traditional and distinguished family. These allegations of harassment have been pointed at Anjuman Ara, the sister-in-law of the family. Fortunately, recent government investigation reports have brought a sense of relief to this ongoing conflict.

According to the complaint and on-site findings, Anjuman Ara, wife of Ilyas Hossain (the eldest son of the late Ejahar Hossain), filed a case under Section 145 (Case No. 463/26) at the Satkhira Additional District Magistrate Court. She filed the case against Ejahar Hossain’s other sons—Emdad, Imran, and Choudhury Amjad Hossain—regarding the possession of about 1.50 to nearly 1.75 decimals of land located in front of the house.

Upon the court's directive, Jalal Uddin Ahmed, an official from the Bharashimla Union Land Office, conducted an on-site investigation on June 11, 2026. Later, on September 29, Kanungo Abdul Jalil and Amal Kanti Ghosh from the Kaliganj Upazila Land Office also conducted a field inspection in the presence of several prominent local figures.

The investigation report reveals that under BRS 361, Khatian 2573-74, and seven other plots within Paikara Mouza No. 182, plaintiff Anjuman Ara is entitled to a total of 1.75 decimals. However, she attempted to claim ownership over a disputed area situated on the eastern side of the house. Notably, the investigation report found no substance in Anjuman Ara's claims regarding this specific plot.

Meanwhile, Anjuman Ara claimed that she previously owned a wooden house on the disputed land, alongside two houses belonging to the defendants. However, witnesses and on-site observations presented a different picture. Currently, neither party has any physical structure standing on the disputed site. Testimonies from local witnesses, including a straw vendor named Anarul, confirmed that while wooden and straw structures belonging to the defendants previously stood there, those have since been dismantled as the defendants prepare to construct brick and tin-shed structures.

Furthermore, allegations surfaced that the plaintiff, Anjuman Ara, and her associates intentionally remained absent during the field investigation conducted by Kaliganj Upazila Land Office official Abdul Jalil on September 29. The investigating officer reportedly called the plaintiff repeatedly, but she failed to appear at the scene.

According to local residents, because Anjuman Ara has lived away from the house for a long time, they demand that the dispute be swiftly resolved based on the investigation report to restore peace to Boro Bari.

Providing background context, the plaintiff Anjuman Ara’s first husband, Ilyas Hossain, passed away from cancer in 2001. Following his death, Anjuman Ara left the household, moved to Nalta, and began working at the Nalta KG School. Through her employment, she met Amir Ali from Sonatikari village, whom she married in 2010. After the marriage, Amir Ali joined Grameen Bank and relocated outside Nalta. Meanwhile, Anjuman Ara’s only child, Ishtiaq Ahsan, was raised by her uncle Amjad Choudhury and his family. After marrying Amir Ali, she lived with him in Khulna due to his job, but later moved to a relative's house in Paikgachha, where she legally divorced Amir Ali through the court. Thus, following the death of her first husband, the rest of Anjuman Ara’s life was largely spent away from the family home and area.

Consequently, local witnesses were unable to confirm whether Anjuman Ara ever had a wooden house on the disputed land. At the same time, Amjad Hossain and the other defendants alleged that Anjuman Ara never possessed any house on the disputed property and that she is conspiring to harass them while tarnishing the family's honor and dignity.

In light of this, local and conscious citizens have urged for a prompt and fair resolution of the disputed land based on the on-site investigation report to restore the dignity and discipline of the historic household.
