Madrasa Student Drowns at Inani Beach; 15 Others Rescued Alive\
Rescue personnel search for a missing madrasa student at Inani Beach in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, after strong currents swept away a group of teachers and students.

A 12-year-old madrasa student drowned while bathing in the sea at Inani Beach in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. His body was recovered nearly two hours after he went missing, while 15 other people swept away by strong currents were rescued alive.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Coast Guard personnel, police and beach workers recovered the body of the deceased, identified as Shanto, from the northern point of the beach around noon. He was taken to a hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.

Shanto was the son of Mozammel Hossain, a resident of Goran area under Khilgaon in Dhaka.

According to police and local sources, a group of teachers and students from Darul Arkam Madrasa in Dhaka and Faizul Ulum Madrasa in Dhanmondi visited Inani Beach at around 11:00 am on Thursday.

After playing football, 15 teachers and students entered the sea to bathe. However, they were swept away by strong currents.

Following the incident, local residents, beach workers, police and Coast Guard personnel launched a joint rescue operation. Fifteen people were rescued alive, but Shanto remained missing.

After nearly two hours of searching, rescuers recovered his body from the northern point of the beach.

Belal Uddin, an Inani beach worker, said the rescue operation began immediately after they received information about the incident. He added that 15 people were rescued alive during the joint operation, while Shanto was later found at the northern end of the beach.

Atikur Rahman Majumder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ukhiya Police Station, said arrangements were being made to send the body for an autopsy. He added that the body would be handed over to the family after the completion of legal procedures.
