A 50-year-old man named Anwar Khan died of electrocution in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali due to alleged negligence by local Palli Bidyut employees. The accident took place on Friday afternoon (October 2) near the Etimkhana graveyard in Kalapara municipality town. The deceased, son of the late Entez Khan, was a resident of Ward 4 of the municipality and a father of three.

According to eyewitnesses and family members, a main electric power line snapped around 11:30 AM and fell onto the tin fencing of a residential house, setting off a fire and electrifying 7 to 8 nearby homes. Despite multiple urgent calls made to the local Palli Bidyut office starting from 11:45 AM, staff delayed taking action, leading to the fatal incident. However, Kalapara Palli Bidyut Samiti DGM A. Rahim stated that the neutral line had snapped and power was cut off immediately upon receiving the report, adding that an investigation will determine full details. Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed that police were dispatched to the scene and legal action will follow investigation.
