People from various walks of life in the district held a protest march, rally, and submitted a memorandum demanding the establishment of Shariatpur Agricultural University near the district headquarters, along the Shariatpur-Dhaka Highway. Thousands of people from various upazilas, including Sadar, Naria, and Zanjira, participated in the event organized under the leadership of Mahabub Morshed Tipu Madbor, General Secretary of Shariatpur Sadar Upazila BNP.
On Wednesday (October 28) around 11:00 AM, the protest march began in front of the Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Parishad. After marching through various streets, the procession concluded in front of the District Commissioner's office, where a short rally was held. Following the rally, a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister was submitted through the District Commissioner.
Speaking at the rally, Mahabub Morshed Tipu Madbor said, "Establishing an agricultural university in Shariatpur has been our long-standing demand. In response to that demand, steps were taken to set up the university. During initial discussions, a location across the Kotapara Bridge adjacent to Shariatpur Sadar was selected, keeping in mind student commuting, housing, and overall logistics."
He further added, "Recently, we have been hearing that the university might be relocated to Damudya, far from Shariatpur Sadar. Establishing the university there could cause various difficulties for students and stakeholders. We demand that Shariatpur Agricultural University be established in a convenient location near the district headquarters."
