Md. Mohaiminul Islam, a 50th-batch student of the Department of Geological Sciences at Jahangirnagar University (JU), who went missing from the campus, was safely rescued by police in Daudkandi, Comilla. He was traced to a house adjacent to the Daudkandi Model Mosque around 7:30 PM on Monday (October 12, 2026).
According to police, Mohaiminul used another individual's mobile internet connection to send a Messenger alert to a senior student in his department, Shafiouzzaman Shaheen, stating that he was near the Daudkandi Model Mosque and needed to be rescued. Upon receiving the information, Savar Police Station alerted Daudkandi Model Police Station. Daudkandi Police promptly conducted an operation, located Mohaiminul, and brought him to the station before handing him over to a visiting Savar police team later that night around 10:00 PM.
Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sazedul Islam Palash stated that Mohaiminul was physically unharmed and was not held captive by anyone, but was staying at the house on his own accord.
Mohaiminul had been untraceable since Sunday afternoon after boarding a Dhaka-bound university BRTC bus near Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall. Concerns grew after a suicide note citing departmental negligence was discovered in his dormitory room, prompting JU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam to meet with departmental teachers and students on Monday morning and coordinate search efforts with police officials. The university administration has also formed a committee to investigate the allegations raised in the note.
