A husband and wife were killed on Tuesday morning (October 13, 2026) when an unidentified speeding vehicle ran them over on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Daudkandi upazila, Comilla. The incident occurred around 7:00 AM near Haripur Mosque under Gauripur Union.
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam (62), son of the late Khalilur Rahman from Jinglatali village, and his wife Jharna Begum (48). According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the couple had stepped out for a morning walk following their Fazr prayers when the speeding vehicle struck them and fled the scene. They were thrown onto the roadside, suffering critical injuries. Pedestrians discovered them about an hour later, and relatives subsequently brought the bodies home.
Daudkandi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Premlal Das confirmed the tragedy, stating that efforts are underway to identify and locate the vehicle by reviewing footage from CCTV cameras installed along the highway.
