NAZIRPUR, PIROJPUR: An initiative has been taken to identify and develop important roads that have remained neglected for years in Nazirpur Upazila of Pirojpur district. As part of the initiative, roads in three union parishads have been inspected on-site and a list of roads requiring development has been prepared. Authorities plan to gradually undertake road development projects across all unions in the upazila.
Following instructions from Md. Mustafizur Rahman Sohel, joint secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, different roads in Deulbari Dobra Union No. 3, Kalar Doania Union No. 9 and Dirgha Union No. 4 were inspected on Wednesday, October 28.
A representative of the joint secretary, the assistant engineer of Nazirpur Upazila and local residents were present during the inspections.
According to relevant sources, authorities will gradually prepare a comprehensive list of important roads across all unions in Nazirpur that have remained deprived of development for a long time. Once the list is finalised, instructions have been given to prepare cost estimates for the roads as soon as possible. Necessary funding will then be sought to implement the development projects.
Plans are also underway to form a monitoring committee in each union to ensure the quality of road construction and renovation work. These committees will monitor project implementation and help ensure the construction of durable infrastructure.
Nazirpur Upazila Parishad’s former chairman and Pirojpur District BNP convener Nazrul Islam Khan said the process of identifying neglected and important roads in Nazirpur was underway as part of the government’s rural development programme.
He expressed hope that all such roads would be listed and developed in phases. He also thanked Local Government Ministry Joint Secretary Md. Mustafizur Rahman Sohel for his initiative and commitment to implementing the plan.
Mohammad Habibur Rahman, a retired sergeant and president of Positive Pirojpur, said that after contacting Joint Secretary Mustafizur Rahman Sohel, he learned that monitoring committees would be formed in every union to maintain the quality of development work.
He added that plans were also being considered to continue development activities gradually across all upazilas of Pirojpur district.
If implemented, the initiative is expected to accelerate improvements to long-neglected roads in Nazirpur. Local stakeholders hope the projects will improve rural connectivity and make travel easier for residents.
