The body of Abul Bashar Talukdar (40), an assistant primary school teacher, was recovered from a room on the second floor of Dhaka Residential Hotel near the Bhedarganj police station bridge in Shariatpur on Tuesday afternoon (October 20). Following the incident, hotel owner Ataur Rahman Hossain went into hiding.

Bashar, a teacher at the 82 No. Kholapara Government Primary School in Gazipur Sadar, had left his home on Sunday morning to visit his ancestral home in Naria upazila. According to his family, they later received extortion calls demanding BDT 2,000 for his medical treatment, along with a photo of him lying down and threats that his body would not be found if the ransom wasn't paid.

Police tracked his phone to Bhedarganj and recovered his body after being alerted by the family. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of death and the extortion angle.
