Promising Student Roman Hossain, 22, Killed in Road Accident, Leaving Family in Mourning
Roman Hossain, a 22-year-old Management student at Government Edward College in Pabna, was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka–Pabna highway, leaving his family and community in mourning.

The dreams of a promising young student from a financially struggling family in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district came to a tragic end when he was killed in a road accident on Wednesday afternoon.

Roman Hossain, 22, died at around 1:00 pm on October 28, 2026, in a collision on the Dhaka–Pabna highway in front of Ratnadwip Resort in Jalalpur. His sudden death has plunged his family, relatives, classmates and the local community into deep mourning.

Roman was the eldest of three children of Shamsur Rahman Babu and Ruma Akter, residents of Hakimpur village in Ward No. 5 of Hatkhali Union under Sujanagar upazila.

According to family sources, Roman had left home that morning for Pabna. However, he was killed in the accident before reaching his destination.

Roman completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination at Nazirganj School and his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination at Malifa Selim Reza Habib Degree College in Sujanagar. He subsequently enrolled in the Department of Management at Government Edward College in Pabna for the 2024–25 academic session.

Through hard work, determination and academic talent, he had been pursuing his dream of higher education despite his family's financial difficulties.

His father, who struggles to support the family financially, runs a small tea stall at Nazirganj bus stand. The income from the shop was used to cover household expenses and finance Roman's education.

Despite persistent financial hardship, his father never allowed economic difficulties to interrupt his son's studies. He worked tirelessly to secure a better future for Roman, putting aside his own struggles and sacrifices.

His parents had dreamed that their eldest son would complete higher education, become financially independent, help overcome the family's financial difficulties and bring happiness to their lives. His untimely death has shattered those hopes.

Local resident Halim Fakir said Roman's death was not only an irreparable loss for his family but also a source of profound grief for the entire Sujanagar community, which had hoped to see the talented young student build a bright future.

According to highway police and local sources, Roman was travelling in a rickshaw along the Dhaka–Pabna highway when the accident occurred. As the rickshaw reached the area in front of Ratnadwip Resort in Jalalpur, a Rajshahi-bound bus coming from the opposite direction struck it head-on.

The collision reportedly threw Roman out of the rickshaw and onto the road in front of the bus. He was then run over by the bus's wheels and died at the scene.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Madhpur Highway Police, said the exact circumstances of the accident had not yet been established. The bus had been detained, and Roman's body was handed over to his family.

He added that legal proceedings in connection with the incident were underway.
