A human chain and protest program were held in Pirojpur to protest alleged obstructions against providing a state guard of honour and proper religious burial for deceased freedom fighter Manik Pashari.
On Thursday (October 29) at 11:00 AM, the program took place in front of the Freedom Fighter Complex on Shahid Omar Faruk Road in Pirojpur town under the banner of Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Sangsad, Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Command.
Speakers at the human chain stated that according to prevailing laws and government directives, conferring a state guard of honour and a proper religious burial upon a deceased freedom fighter should be conducted smoothly. Demanding thorough investigations and necessary actions if any obstruction was created, Pirojpur District Freedom Fighter Sangsad Convener Ahmed Shahidul Huq Chan stated that determining a deceased person's afterlife accountability is not a human prerogative but entirely divine. He termed obstructing freedom fighter Manik Pashari's guard of honour and burial a serious matter concerning the dignity of freedom fighters, demanding proper review of the incident.
Recalling Manik Pashari's participation in the Liberation War, Ahmed Shahidul Huq Chan stated that his elder brother, martyred Fazlul Huq Khokon, was engaged in transporting refugees and volunteers seeking training to India via waterways through the Sundarbans. Through his initiative, Manik Pashari, alongside Royuzzaman Pashari, joined operations. Later, during Liberation War activities in the Sundarbans, Sub-Sector Commander Major Ziauddin re-enlisted them under his command, he claimed. He added that during the compilation of freedom fighter lists in 1980, he was involved in listing Manik Pashari as an associate freedom fighter, noting that recognition and gazette status subsequently shifted following the abolition of the associate freedom fighter category.
Speakers emphasized upholding freedom fighters' honor and dignity while urging truth-uncovering through thorough investigations into allegations of obstruction.
Attendees included Senior Warrant Officer and Freedom Fighter Bir Protik Solaiman Mollik, District Committee member and retired BGB member Razzak Sardar, District Committee member Abdul Mannan Dharani, Sadar Upazila Freedom Fighter Sangsad Convener Freedom Fighter Sultan Ahmed, Member Secretary Freedom Fighter Hatem Ali Sardar, and Bangladesh Nationalist Liberation War Generation Pirojpur District Convener Gazi Kamruzzaman Shubhra, alongside other freedom fighter leaders and activists.
