Traffic flow on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway returned to normal after law enforcement cleared a two-hour blockade staged by ready-made garment (RMG) workers in the Hemayetpur area of Savar on Wednesday morning, November 4, 2026. However, violent clashes broke out during the protest, resulting in at least 10 injuries—including journalists and police officers—and the arson of a police vehicle.

The demonstration began around 9:00 AM when workers from several garment factories took to the highway demanding a 3-point agenda, which included minimum wage hikes and an end to worker blacklisting. As police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces moved in to clear the road around 11:00 AM, protesters hurled brickbats, prompting police to fire tear gas shells. At around 10:30 AM, agitators set fire to a police car on the Hemayetpur-Singair road and attacked journalists from Star TV and 71 TV. Meanwhile, work stoppages in Ashulia's Nischintapur prompted factory management to declare a holiday, though police dispersed subsequent attempts to block the Baipail-Abdullahpur road. Savar Highway Police Station OC Md. Asaduzzaman Noor confirmed that traffic is moving normally while additional police forces remain deployed to prevent further escalation.
