Relief and normalcy have returned to the Daroga Bazar Central Crematorium and adjoining Durga Temple in Ukhiya Sadar, Cox's Bazar, following a long-standing land ownership dispute and recent boundary wall vandalism. Through the prompt intervention of the upazila administration, the demolished boundary wall was reconstructed, tin fencing erected in open areas, and CCTV surveillance installed, enabling the local Hindu community to celebrate Durga Puja with enthusiasm.

At a press conference held on the day of Saptami Puja, representatives of the Daroga Bazar Society Crematorium Bhairab and Durga Temple Development and Management Committee presented legal records regarding the property. According to official Khatian documents, 1.12 acres of land are registered under the crematorium's name and have been utilized for over two centuries. However, the committee alleged that approximately 15 decimals on the southern boundary had been unlawfully encroached upon, leading to an eviction suit (No. 02/07-08) filed in 2007. While an eviction order was issued on October 1, 2013, administrative hurdles delayed its execution. Meanwhile, a civil revision case (No. 2681/2021) remains pending in the High Court, which issued a stay order on June 8, 2022, maintaining status quo.

Tensions flared again on September 15, 2026, when portions of the boundary wall were vandalized, prompting local Sanatan community members to briefly consider abstaining from Durga Puja festivities out of security concerns. Following discussions recommended by Member of Parliament Alhajj Shahjahan Chowdhury, Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Panna Akhtar and Upazila BNP President Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury mediated the situation. Both disputing parties submitted written undertakings to refrain from entering the contested land pending the High Court’s final verdict, placing the site under direct administrative supervision. Committee leaders Master Mukunda Prasad Rudra, Journalist Ratan Kanti Dey, and Advocate Rabindra Das Robi urged all parties to uphold religious harmony and respect judicial proceedings.
