To mark the birthday of Barrister Zaima Rahman, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam MP distributed pink bicycles to 548 meritorious schoolgirls from Shibganj and Mokamtala areas in Bogura.
During the same event, 1,500 students were presented with mugs featuring portraits of Zaima Rahman, while nearly 4,000 people received free eye care services across a two-day camp. The bicycle distribution event was held on Sunday (October 25) at 11:00 AM on the Shibganj Pilot High School grounds.
Organized to celebrate the birthday of Barrister Zaima Rahman—daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Dr. Zubaida Rahman—the initiative aims to promote female education, facilitate safe student commutes, and encourage academic excellence.
Addressing the gathering, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam emphasized that women's education is the core goal of the initiative, noting that today's female students are tomorrow's future.
He stressed the importance of collective vigilance against child marriage and stalking while highlighting past humanitarian programs organized for Zaima Rahman's birthday, such as orphan food distribution, doa mahfils, and eye camps. He also noted that free Friday midday meals have been provided to underprivileged individuals near the Dewantala Mazar area for the past 20 years.
On Sunday at 12:00 PM, a second day of free eye treatment and cataract surgeries was conducted at the Aliarhat Rokeya-Sattar High School grounds in Shibganj, following a similar camp that served nearly 2,000 people in Syedpur union of Mokamtala upazila on Saturday. Speaking at the eye care event, the State Minister criticized Jamaat-e-Islami for using religion for political gains, while highlighting government welfare initiatives for imams, muezzins, and khadims, as well as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's family cards, farmer cards, tree plantation drives, and rural health services.
The event was attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ziaur Rahman, the State Minister's spouse Mir Laboni Akhter, Rooposhi BD Group Managing Director Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto, and other local dignitaries, concluding with prayers for the good health and long life of Barrister Zaima Rahman and the Zia family.
