In Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari, a helpless family is living in constant fear after facing physical assault, house vandalism, and death threats for protesting the alleged forcible registration of 83 decimals of land by a daughter and son-in-law who held a 75-year-old mentally unstable man hostage. The incident occurred in Koya Golahat Sarkerpara under Ward No. 1 of Syedpur Municipality.
According to a press conference held by the victim family on Monday (October 5, 2026), elderly Mokhsed Ali—who frequently loses his way due to his condition—was taken advantage of by his daughter Morsheda Begum and son-in-law Amjad Hossain, who allegedly manipulated and confined him to register the land on February 18.
When the elder grandson Aktaruzzaman and mother Afroza Begum filed a court case demanding cancellation of the deed and equitable partition, tensions escalated. On Saturday (September 3), Morsheda, Amjad, and Motaleb's wife Runi Begum reportedly launched a violent attack on the elder son Abu Bakar's household, ransacking doors and furniture, beating family members, and issuing grave threats of false cases and physical elimination. While the accused and the elderly man claimed the land transfer was voluntary, local victims have appealed to the administration and human rights organizations for urgent protection and justice.
